Event Details:

Each fall in mid September, Augusta celebrates the Harvest season with a Friday night concert and picnic in the vineyards along with a fun filled Saturday when most Augusta businesses have special events. This event is sponsored by the Augusta Chamber of Commerce. On Friday September 16, 2011 the sixth annual Concert & Picnic in the Vineyard will be the Official kick-off of Augusta’s “Harvest Season”. Around 5pm, you will arrive at the American Legion Hall in Augusta. There you will board a pumpkin wagon and take a trip down a country lane to the Hoeft Vineyards nestled on the bluffs of the Missouri River Valley. This will be followed by sampling some of the finest port from local wineries in a 130 year old vaulted wine cellar built in the hillsides of Augusta. Next you will head to the barn and choose your gourmet picnic basket with a variety of goodies, accoutrements and wine. Your gourmet basket will include cheese, sausage, fruit, tomato olive tapenade, vegetables & dip, focaccia bread, jam & wine. Then, a live band will provide music while you enjoy your picnic, visit with friends, and dance on the grass or just relax. On Saturday September 17, 2011 the harvest celebration continues with a Festival in the Park and a Meet the Wine Maker Social. The Festival in the Park will include a wine tasting presented by the area’s wineries, food prepared by the Augusta Volunteer Fire Department, and the ever popular Pie Baking Contest. A highlight of the afternoon is the Pie Contest and Pie Walk. The reputation of our local bakers is unsurpassed. Pies will be judged and awards given. Visitors are urged to save room for dessert after sampling some wine and food. Those wanting a whole pie will be able to participate in an old-fashioned Pie Walk, or the more calorie conscious may just buy a slice. The Meet the Wine Maker Social early Saturday evening is an opportunity to meet the wine makers or owners of several area wineries. You will learn about their award-winning wines and their choices for the pairing of wine with a hors d’oeuvre. Reservations are required for this event. The Montelle Winery, too, has special ways to celebrate the Harvest Festival; discounts will be given off all purchases from the Klondike Café menu with this flyer, and with mention of the Swinging in the Vines flyer a complimentary after-dinner drink for Sunset Dinner Reservation guests. Get in the “swing” of things with live music. Halcyon Therapeutic Massage invites you to an open house Saturday and Sunday. Special savings will be available. Come and meet our Massage therapists, see our new merchandise and hear about our services. Augusta Brewing Company celebrates the harvest season with beer and food specials. These specials will be running during lunch and dinner, focusing on locally grown produce and meats, primarily from farms and ranches in the area. There will be live music in the afternoon. In celebration of the Harvest Season, American Kitchen and Backyard Design invites you to visit their new location, called Oaks Crossing. There will be activities taking place through the day. Details will be forthcoming. Some of the activities will take in its New Orleans style courtyard adjacent to the 1905 vintage Coffee House. Stoneledge Antiques will be helping celebrate the Harvest Weekend with special discounts throughout the day. Augusta Winery is planning some special events that will be finalized in the future. Augusta’s’ Harvest Season runs through Thanksgiving and to give a special celebration The Augusta Wood is planning some special events. Stay tuned for all the exciting things happening at Augusta Wood that day. Many other shops, as well as the Augusta Visitor Center, will be opened with special activities taking place through-out the day and the whole harvest season. All restaurants in the area will be open with specials of their own that will definitely tempt your palate. Plan to spend Friday and Saturday with us by enjoying one of many bed and breakfast locations within the greater Augusta area. You will find this entire weekend a relaxing fun filled time away from the stress and hubbub of everyday life. We are still a long way from September 2011 so these events may change or definitely be fine-tuned along with additional things happening that weekend. Visit the website at augusta-chamber.org to stay abreast of the events.
