5. Missouri Wine Notes

Here's what's new and notable in the world of Missouri wine this month:

Winter Rears Its Ugly Head Again,
Hits Wine Grapes Hard

As you probably know by now, the Midwestern grape crop was pretty much wiped out by the recent spate of cold weather. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ran a front-page article about the weather's effects not only on the grape crop but on apple trees, peach trees and other flowering fruits that started budding weeks ahead of schedule due to the unseasonably warm weather in March.

Here is a link in case you haven't read the news:

Winemakers say another late freeze could doom crop

We here at Missouri Wine Country hope the damage to the vineyards doesn't end up being as bad as many in the industry fear. Whatever the case, there will be plenty of wine to taste at Missouri wineries because the 2007 vintage won't be ready for 1 to 2 years, so don't let the bad news get you down. Show your support for Missouri wineries this spring, summer and fall by making a visit to wine country!
