On August 1, 1986, the southwest part of Missouri was recognized as an American Viticultural Area as part of a three state track including parts of Arkansas and Oklahoma.

A unique distinction of the Ozark Mountain AVA is that it’s the 6th largest AVA in the United States covering 352,000 acres.
